Belfast weather warning issued for ice due to sub zero temperatures

Temperatures are forecast to drop to zero degrees or below in the coming hours with a yellow ice warning coming into place this evening.

The Met Office warning is in effect from 9pm until 11am on Sunday with snow possible on higher ground, above 200m.

Earlier today Trafficwatch NI warned that there may be ice on roads. They tweeted: “Salting of roads on scheduled network considered at risk is planned to commence Sat afternoon / early Sat evening. Road users advised to exercise caution when travelling, particularly on untreated roads.”

The Met Office says Britain and Ireland are currently in an area of cold air to the north of the jet stream with colder conditions affecting much of the weekend.
