Belfast weather: Very wet weekend forecast but with moments of sunshine

Wherever you're heading this weekend, you'll want to bring your brolly, because we could be in for some very wet weather across Northern Ireland.

An overcast morning is expected in Belfast on Friday, August 20.

According to Met Office, this is likely to change to heavy rain by lunchtime.

Heavy rain will continue on Saturday, August 21, easing off to light rain and cloud in the afternoon.

Luckily, things are looking up a bit for Sunday's forecast (August 22) with cloud forecast to change to sunny intervals by lunchtime.

Temperatures should slowly increase across the weekend - with highs of 18C on Friday, 19C on Saturday and 20C on Sunday forecast in Belfast.

So, at least we won't get too chilly.

Weather-wise, the picture is looking very similar across Northern Ireland.

Cloud and rain are expected on Friday, heavy rain and thundery downpours possible on Saturday, and cloud breaking to bring some sunshine on Sunday.

This weekend may not bring the best of weather, but with any luck, there should be some brighter days ahead.

Highs of 20C are forecast in Belfast from Monday to Wednesday (August 23 to 25), with sunny afternoons each day.

And while this may not been have been the August we anticipated - it's better late than never.
