Belfast weather: Met Office warns of flood risk as thundery showers forecast across NI

It's likely to be a wet start to the week in Belfast and across most of Northern Ireland, with a Met Office warning that heavy thunder showers could lead to flooding.

The yellow weather warning put in place on Monday (July 5) said "slow moving heavy, occasionally thundery, showers will give a risk of flooding this afternoon and early evening".

It covers the majority of Northern Ireland, apart from the Armagh and Newry areas, and is forecast to last from 11am to 8pm.

Flooding of homes and businesses could occur within that time, the Met Office warned, as well as interruption of power supplies and other services.

Spray and flooding on roads could make journey times longer, with bus and train services also potentially affected.

But with any luck, the heavy showers will be over by Tuesday (July 6) when "sunny intervals" are forecast by late morning.

Belfast is likely to see showers most other days this week, but thankfully no other severe showers or weather warnings are expected.

Here is the weather forecast over the next seven days in Belfast

Monday, June 5: highs of 19C, lows of 13C - yellow weather warning (rain)

Tuesday, June 6: highs of 19C, lows of 13C - cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning

Wednesday, June 7: highs of 19C, lows of 13C - cloudy changing to light showers by lunchtime

Thursday, June 8: highs of 18C, lows of 13C - overcast

Friday, June 9: highs of 19C, lows of 13C - cloudy changing to light showers in the afternoon

Saturday, June 10: highs of 19C, lows of 13C - cloudy changing to light showers by lunchtime

Sunday, June 11: highs of 20C, lows of 12C - cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning
