Belfast weather forecast hints at a sunny afternoon

While it's overcast this morning the weather in Belfast is looking rather promising on Saturday afternoon with the clouds potentially parting for some sunny intervals this afternoon.

Met Office forecasters predict that we are in for a mostly dry day with some rain possible in southern areas early on.

You may want to make the most of the opportunity of this afternoon's sunny intervals with a wee walk with family.

Northern Ireland has also escaped yellow weather warnings issued in other parts of the UK for snow, ice and rain.

A Met Office spokesperson said there is a "chance of some rain across the south at first".

They added: "Otherwise a dry day expected with some sunshine breaking through in the afternoon. Rather cold easterly wind, easing later.

"A dry evening and night with long clear spells allowing a slight frost to develop. The odd mist patch is possible."

The sun will rise at 8.17am and fall again at 4.58pm.

As for the temperature, they have predicted a maximum of 5°C dropping to a minimum temperature of -1°C tonight so wrap up warm if you plan to head out.

Tomorrow they believe it will be "staying mainly dry but cloud thickening again with some light rain sleet or snow possibly reaching Fermanagh later" again with a maximum temperature of 5°C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Monday becoming cloudy with a little rain. Unsettled on Tuesday and Wednesday with some heavy rain, perhaps turning to snow on northern hills.
