Belfast weather forecast for weekend as sun to give way to rain

Sunshine could give way to gales and downpours this weekend as the weather is set to change, the Met Office has said.

The weekend may start off with the sun shining but by Saturday we could be experiencing gales and downpours, which won't be welcome news for those planning on heading out.

The Met Office has said there will be sunshine on Friday, although there could be a few showers, but from Saturday a low pressure system moves in bringing rain and wind through until Sunday and even continuing on Monday.

Grahame Madge, a Met Office spokesperson told Belfast Live: "Friday does not look too bad, it is relatively calm, maybe some showers but nothing too much.

"What you have on Saturday is an area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic which will bring rain overnight from Friday night into the early hours of Saturday.

"By Saturday lunchtime it will have spread across the whole of Northern Ireland and it looks like it is going to remain quite blustery .

"On Sunday some of those showers look like they could be quite heavy."

He said there will be a strong wind at times and heavy downpours over the weekend and the low pressure system does not look like it is moving on quickly.

So if you are making plans, it is looking like Friday is going to be the best day of the weekend.
