Belfast weather forecast for the weekend ahead

The Met Office say Friday is set to be a cold day with occasional wintry showers.

According to the weather forecast for January 22, we are set for some bright and sunny periods.

A weather warning for ice across Northern Ireland is in place until 10am on Friday.

The wintry showers will be more prevalent over northern counties, but some reaching the south too.

The forecaster said: "The best of the sunshine will be over South Down. Light to moderate northwest breeze. Maximum temperature 4 C."

Wintry showers "will remain quite frequent across the north giving some fresh accumulations mainly over higher ground".

A few showers will reach Armagh and Down with clear spells. There will be a minimum temperature of -3 C.

For Saturday, the Met Office predict that wintry showers across the north will become more confined to coastal areas in the afternoon.

The south should stay dry with some sunny spells and a maximum temperature of 4 C.

And for the next few days, the forecaster said: "Sunny spells and isolated showers on Sunday. Dry with some sunshine on Monday then cloudier on Tuesday with some rain."
