Belfast weather forecast for Monday as weather warning comes into force

A yellow weather warning is in place for snow and ice as Belfast is set to have a cold but mostly dry day.

The Met Office forecasters have issued the weather warning for ice Monday, February 8, which is in place until 11am this morning, as they predict a mainly dry day and sunny spells with temperatures dropping below freezing at times.

There is a chance of rain and snow in places after 10am this morning, but this will clear up and there is the potential for light showers later in evening.

The maximum temperature will be three degrees and the minimum minus two, although it will feel two or three degrees colder than it really is.

A second warning for snow and ice has also been issued and will come in to force tomorrow at 4pm and remain in place until Wednesday at 11am.

The sun will rise at 8.01am and set at 5.16pm.

The Met Office said: "A bright mainly dry day with sunny spells, with best of sunshine across western counties. but some wintry showers in the east though mostly light and most likely over Antrim and County Down. A cold day with easterly winds.

"(Tonight) Cold with a sharp frost in places. Mainly dry with long clear spells in west, but cloudier in east with still a few wintry showers. Light or moderate easterly winds."

The weather warning will remain in place tomorrow when the cold temperatures are expected to continue.

The Met Office said: "Still a cold easterly wind and some wintry showers around, though mostly in east, but a bright day with some sunny spells. Maximum temperature 2 °C."
