Belfast weather forecast for a wet bank holiday Monday

After a relatively dry Sunday evening, forecasters predict a damp day ahead which is bad news for anyone planning to spend their May Day bank holiday in an outdoor beer garden or restaurant.

According to Met Office, expect a dull and wet start to the day with patches of heavy rain falling across the city throughout the day.

Temperatures will also remain lower than they were at the weekend so layers would be advised for those heading into the town.

The weather forecaster also said to anticipate "strong southeast winds with coastal gales."

"Drier, brighter weather with scattered showers reaching Fermanagh later this morning, extending to all parts this afternoon with winds becoming lighter," they added.

Moving into the evening, the rain will lighten up with a mixture of showers and sunny spells to follow.

As for Monday night, Met Office said: "It will be rather cloudy overnight with some drier weather at first then scattered showers returning. Winds becoming strong again, this time from a northerly direction."

The maximum temperature for Monday is 11 °C and we are expected to have experience lows of 5 °C. Sunrise was at 5.42am and will set again at 9.01pm.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the weather will be a mixed bag as it will remain largely cloudy but we may see some sunny spells with showers continuing into the week.

"The showers most frequent in the afternoon, especially over Antrim. Feeling cooler with fresh northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 10 °C," Met Office explained.
