Belfast weather forecast for a cold weekend ahead

The Met Office say it will be cloudy on Friday, but mainly dry.

According to the weather forecast for February 12, it's set to be cold with strengthening winds.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place from midnight tonight until midnight on Saturday.

It's predicted to be "a rather cloudy day [on Friday] with perhaps a few snow flurries in the west".

The best of any brighter or sunnier spells should be across eastern and northern areas.

The forecaster said: "Feeling bitterly cold in the strengthening southeasterly breeze. Maximum temperature 4 C."

Tonight, there will be some clear spells across the north and east "leading to a touch of frost, otherwise a mostly cloudy [day] with outbreaks of snow reaching western parts later in the night".

It's set to be windy with a minimum temperature of -1 C.

Saturday is predicted to be cloudy "with outbreaks of occasionally heavy snow spreading east, with a risk of freezing rain".

The snow may turn to rain at lower levels later. There will be strong southeasterly winds with coastal gales and a maximum temperature of 4 C.

The Met Office added: "Much milder through Sunday and into next week with occasional rain, especially Sunday morning, or showers, but also some brighter interludes. Winds easing on Sunday and turning more southwesterly."
