Belfast Vital: Lewis Capaldi announced as second headliner for 2023 festival

Lewis Capaldi has been announced as the second headliner set to play Belfast Vital this summer.

The Scottish singer-songwriter is set to take to the stage at Boucher Road Playing Fields on Sunday, September 3, 2023 for 'his biggest ever Belfast show', with special guests to be announced.

The news follows the announcement that one of "the biggest bands in the world" The Killers would be taking to the Belfast Vital stage on September 1, 2023.

After his sold-out performance at Belsonic last year, Lewis is gearing up to return to Northern Ireland later this month for his headline show at the SSE Arena as part of his highly anticipated UK and European tour.

The 'Someone You Loved' singer will be performing in Belfast on January 29 to a now sold-out crowd.

After making his eagerly-awaited return to music last year and rocketing straight to the top of the UK singles chart with "Forget Me", Lewis is set to release his new album 'Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent' before his Belfast Vital show.

It is the follow-up to his debut, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which was the biggest-selling UK album of both 2019 & 2020.

‘Pointless’ arrives as one of his earliest compositions for the new album, written on the first day with Steve Mac. With Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid also on the session, the trio were working on one song (“which hasn’t made the cut”) when Lewis’ collaborators mentioned a verse they’d previously begun writing with Ed Sheeran.

“Ed had that lyric, ‘I bring her coffee in the morning, she brings me inner peace’”, Lewis recalls of the opening line. “And pretty much every other line of that opening was just banging.” Inspired, Lewis got to work, writing a chorus and middle-eight. By the end of the day, ‘Pointless’ was completed.

Tickets for Lewis Capaldi at Belfast Vital go on sale to the public on Friday, January 20 at 9am from ticketmaster.ie and the Three customer 48hr pre-sale starts at 9am on Wednesday, January 18.

Up to two under-16s can go to Vital accompanied by a parent or guardian over 25.
