Belfast Vital 2019: Foo Fighters and Timmy Trumpet set to join this list of major gigs

Down the years it has changed name (slightly) and venues - but one thing’s for sure, Vital has been home to some of the biggest and best gigs ever seen in Northern Ireland.

On Monday, rock legends Foo Fighters return for the second time.

They’ll be joined by Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Hot Milk at Boucher Road playing fields.

Then on August 24, it’ll be the turn of Timmy Trumpet for another huge night.

With that in mind we've picked out a handful of big nights attended by thousands over the years.

2005:

In 2005, Kings of Leon were joined by big names in the shape of Faithless, Franz Ferdinand, Maroon 5 and the Scissor Sisters.

2006:

No strangers to huge shows in Northern Ireland, Snow Patrol headlined Vital in 2006.

That year also saw big sets from the likes of Leeds rockers Kaiser Chiefs, The Raconteurs and Editors.

2007:

The Killers are a festival band if ever there was one. With practically every song a hit, it was one of many memorable Killers shows in the city.

2011:

His first show in Northern Ireland, rapper Eminem didn't disappoint. With huge production, it was well worth the wait.

It was the first Vital show in five years, and paved the way for a host of big shows that followed.

2012:

This year's headliners, the Foo Fighters played a blistering show back in 2012.

On the second day, Manchester's The Stone Roses headlined with support from Florence and the Machine.

2015:

Calvin Harris put on a monster of a show in 2015. The Scottish DJ 'found love' with a crowd of thousands at Boucher Road.

After that it was the turn of The Script who had 65,000 fans in the palm of their hands.

2016:

The Red Hot Chili Peppers came, saw and conquered in 2016.

Anthony Kiedis thrilled the crowd with the band's biggest hits including 'Under the Bridge' and 'By the Way'. You can read our review here.

Avicii played one of his last ever shows here, and it's fair to say it was a wild night as our review showed.

2017:

Muse and Biffy Clyro put on a spectacular show in 2017 for the rockers, while for dance fans Tiësto was one of the nights of the summer.
