Belfast Underground Records closing city centre shop after 5 years in business

Belfast Underground Records, a store based on Queen Street , has announced today that it will be closing its city centre location after five years in business.

Situated in a three story building, which featured a record store, radio station, recording studios and a huge selection of urban art/graffiti spray paint and accessories, the store has been in operation since April 2015.

It will close on April 18, 2020, exactly five years after first opening its doors.

In a statement shared on their social media channels today, Belfast Underground Records said: "The end of an era and beginning of a new chapter.

"Belfast Underground are closing its Queen Street record store on Sat 18th April 2020.

"The block in Belfast city centre which is home to our store was sold recently and our current lease will not be renewed by the new owners when it ends, due to future redevelopment of the area. We therefore made the decision to terminate our lease now, on a high and to avoid the uncertainty of the future.

"Everything we do will continue on as normal, minus our current on-street building.

"Belfast Underground record store will continue shipping records & CDs worldwide daily from our 3 stores online, Discogs, EBay and our own website belfastunderground.co.uk.

"Belfast Underground Radio will take a 3 month break and relaunch from its new home on Sat 6th June.

"Our recording studios, Cloud 9 Studios will relocate to its new home in Banbridge and relaunch on May 1st.

"Over the years Belfast Underground Radio played host to over 450 DJs & producers who provided some amazing sets live from inside our store. We are very proud to have been able to offer this brilliant platform which has now broadcasted over 2,700 shows, pushed into more than 190 countries worldwide and has helped kickstart and boost the careers of countless DJs & musicians.

"Cloud 9 Studios have recorded more than 3,000 label released songs & productions and have thousands of clients worldwide.

"We are very proud of what we have achieved over the years on all fronts and are excited and motivated for a fresh new challenge.

"We wish to offer massive thanks from the heart to all who have supported us in what we do and we hope that you will continue to do so as we move forward into the next chapter.

"Big love from the underground."

The news comes just months after Craftworld , one of Belfast's longest standing retailers which is also located on Queen Street, announced its closure after more than 30 years in business.
