Belfast Trust confirms six positive coronavirus cases at Royal Victoria Hospital cardiology ward

The Belfast Trust has released a statement following a confirmed Covid-19 cluster at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

One patient and five members of staff have tested positive for the virus on the cardiology ward of the hospital the trust said today.

The families of the patients on the ward have been informed.

The hospital says that it is working with the Public Health Agency in order to establish measures to keep other patients and staff safe.

The staff members who tested positive for the virus are isolating at home.

The trust has also said that it is still safe for patients to attend the cardiology ward.

A Belfast Health and Social Care Trust spokesperson said: "Belfast Trust can confirm that one patient and five members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Royal Victoria Hospital Cardiology Ward.

"The families of the patients on the ward have been informed.

"We are working closely with the PHA to ensure established protocols are followed and we are taking steps to protect other patients and staff on the ward.

"The staff members who have tested positive are all following public health guidance and isolating at home.

"We would like to reassure all patients who attend the Cardiology Unit that it is safe to do so.

"Anyone experiencing chest pain should seek urgent medical attention."
