Belfast traffic and travel warning issued by police as city hosts events

Road users are being advised to anticipate traffic disruption and plan for potential delays across Belfast today due to a number of parades, cultural and sporting events.

Many parts of the city are set to be affected with some roads being closed .

A PSNI spokesperson said: "There will be two parades through Belfast city centre . The first will assemble at Writers Square at 1.30pm, before making its way through the city centre to Donegall Street.

"A second parade will assemble at Custom House Square at 3pm, travelling through the city centre, returning to Donegall Street for 5pm.

"In North Belfast , another parade will take place in the Greater Shankill and Crumlin Road areas between 2pm and 7.30pm.

"There are also a number of football matches on Saturday afternoon. In North Belfast, Cliftonville are set to play Linfield at Solitude kicking off at 3pm, with Glentoran playing Larne at the same time at the Oval in East Belfast.

"In East Belfast , road users should plan for some traffic disruption between 11am and 3.30pm as Ulster play Glasgow at the Kingspan Stadium . Event organisers have successfully applied for road closure orders for the Onslow Parade, Shelbourne Road, Mount Merrion Avenue areas, so please follow directions of stewards and police.

"Access to Onslow Parade and Ravenhill Park will be restricted to residents, disabled fans, shuttle buses and taxis dripping off fans at the stadium."

Those attending are being asked to public transport and the usual Ulster Rugby Park and Ride Services."
