Belfast taxi driver terrified after robbed with screwdriver held to his face

Detectives are investigating an armed robbery in the New Lodge Road area of North Belfast in the early hours of Tuesday,

It was reported that a taxi driver was robbed at around 4.10am after collecting two men, who directed him to turn into Ludlow Square.

The passenger in the front then pulled out a screwdriver and pressed it against the driver’s cheek, demanding money.

Meanwhile, the victim was struck on the head by the passenger in the back seat.

Detective Sergeant Kitchen said: "The driver managed to raise the alarm, and the two made off with his mobile phone, wallet, cash, and bank cards.

“This has been a terrifying ordeal, which has left the man with a cut to his right forearm, as well as being visibly shaken.

“The car is a grey Toyota Prius. One of the suspects is described as being aged in his early 20s and the other in his mid-20s.

“I am appealing to anyone with information, or who noticed any suspicious activity, to contact us on 101 quoting reference 362 of 13/07/21.
