Two people have been arrested after an altercation outside a takeaway in Belfast in which a man was punched in the head several times and a woman punched in the face.
Officers were called to the scene on the Ormeau Road in the early hours of Sunday, November 3, following reports of disturbance.
Video footage of the shocking incident has been circulating on social media appearing to show one man brandishing a meat cleaver before an altercation breaks out in the street.
PSNI Sergeant Hagan said: "Police are appealing for information following the report of an assault outside a takeaway restaurant in the Ormeau Road area of Belfast in the early hours of Sunday 3 November.
"We received a report of a disturbance just before 12.18am on Sunday morning.
"One man was punched several times to the head, while a woman was punched in the face.
"Two males were subsequently arrested. Both have since been released on bail, pending further enquiries.
"We are appealing to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 35 of 03/11/19."
