Belfast suspected hit and run leaves pedestrian in hospital with "serious" injuries

A pedestrian is being treated in hospital for "serious" injuries following a suspected hit and run in South Belfast.

Police are appealing for information following the incident around 2am on Claremount Street.

A local said a number of roads in the area were cordoned off by investigating officers earlier this morning. The cordon went from Fountainville Avenue to Camden Street.

It is thought the victim was struck by a small white car.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a suspected hit and run road traffic collision in the early hours of this morning, Saturday, 5 September.

"Shortly after 2.00am police received a report that a pedestrian was believed to have been struck by a small white car on Claremont Street, Belfast.

"The pedestrian has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are described as serious.

"Sergeant Mike Brown would appeal to the driver of this vehicle and anyone who witnessed this incident to contact police at Lisburn Road, Belfast on 101 quoting reference 173 05/09/20."
