As a new academic year begins, students are setting off from home for the first time to start a new exciting chapter of their life.
With Belfast becoming a booming place to live for students, Belfast City Council are reminding young people to consider safety when choosing a new place to live in the city.
"For many young people, this is their first experience living away from home or sharing with friends, so it's vital that they know what to look for when choosing their new accommodation," said Councillor Michael Collins.
The council want to make students aware of the potential risks and have released some guidelines to ensure that the students can have a "safe and enjoyable" experience away from home.
Cllr Collins states that the three key areas to consider are Fire Safety, Carbon Monoxide poisoning and Crime Prevention.
The list includes tips to not overload electrical plugs, keeping valuables locked away, and of course making sure there is functioning fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and property alarms. The full list of recommendations can be found on the Belfast City Council website.
