Belfast Strongest Man 2020 competition planned for September

This year's Belfast Strongest Man 2020 competition will be held on Sunday, September 13.

The fourth running of the cross-community event will see some of Europe's strongest competitors take on five gruelling events.

It will be held at Shankill Barbell Gym and is being organised by Steven Harrison and Michael Downey.

"This is a real cross community event and we can't wait to host it in September," said West Belfast strongman Michael.

"Steven Harrison, who owns the host gym, is also competing and looking to make a statement on home turf by winning the event.

"It's completely free for people to come along and watch, and we will be doing a collection on the day for our chosen charity which will be a local suicide awareness group."

The events include:

  • Deadlift for reps 300kg
  • Super Yoke 380kg for 30 metres
  • Frame Carry 305kg for 30 metres
  • Atlas stone for reps 160kg
  • Overhead Press medley Log 125kg, 78kg Dumbbell, 100kg stone, 125kg axle, 145kg Log

"Athletes from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Lithuania, Scotland and Poland are due to take part in the competition," Michael added.

"Hopefully people come down and support the competitors on the day."
