Thieves have damaged cars and hospital doors in 14 break-ins at Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital.
The incidents, which are being probed by the PSNI , took place over an eight month period.
Hospital buildings were the main target in the spate of attempted burglaries but four private vehicles were also damaged.
A Belfast Trust spokesperson said: “Belfast Trust can confirm that there were 14 break-ins reported on the Royal Hospitals site.

“The hospital should be considered a place of safety for patients, their visitors and our staff alike and it is unacceptable for anyone to enter Trust premises with the intention of committing a crime.
“While the cost of repairs to Trust property as a result of the break-ins was not significant, activity of this type detracts the PSNI and the Trust’s Security team from what may be more serious issues and can cause disruption to staff going about their normal business.
“Fortunately, none of the incidents affected any patient services.”

Property on hospital grounds was targeted 14 times between April and November last year.
“Four of these incidents involved damage caused to private vehicles and the other 10 incidents related to doors being forced open damaged in an attempted break in,” the spokesperson explained.

“The PSNI were informed of these instances and attended the scene where required. There is no record of any loss of property as a result of the break-ins.
“There are very effective security arrangements at the Royal Hospital’s site which involve the extensive use of CCTV and Security personnel on regular patrols.
“Any criminal activity that is detected on the site is reported to the PSNI and prosecutions are pursued as a deterrent to anyone considering abusing any of the Trust’s facilities.”
