Belfast road closed due to ongoing fire at commercial premises

A North Belfast road has been closed due to an ongoing fire at commercial premises in North Belfast.

The Woodvale Road is closed between Cambrai Street and Glenvale Street as 40 crew members tackle the ongoing blaze.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are currently at the scene of a fire at commercial premises in the Woodvale Road area of North Belfast.

"Motorists are advised that the Woodvale Road is closed at the junction with Glenvale Street and at the junction with Cambrai Street.

"Diversions are in place. Traffic is being diverted at the Ballygomartin Road and all city-bound traffic is being directed down Enfield Street."

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson said: "NIFRS received a call to a fire in a commercial property at Woodvale Road Belfast at 05:30hrs this morning.

"Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire and to stop the spread of the fire to other properties.

"NIFRS has five pumping appliances, an aerial appliance, a command support vehicle, supervisory officers and a total of 40 personnel involved in the incident.

"Operations are ongoing and a further update will be issued in due course."

DUP Councillor for Court, Brian Kingston said: "Terrible scene on Woodvale Road this morning, 3 shops - kebab shop, cafe & barbers - burned through by overnight fire.

"Thankfully no reports of anyone injured. Devastating for those whose jobs likely to be lost.

"Grateful to fire service for preventing blaze from spreading further."
