Belfast restaurant The Barking Dog to remain closed due to staff shortages with Covid-19

A popular Belfast restaurant says they will remain shut until next week after closing due to Covid-19.

The Barking Dog, on the Malone Road, had postponed their reopening after Christmas until December 30 after a number of positive cases in their staff team.

But in an update today, the owner says they still don't have the staff to operate properly.

They said: "Bad news folks, we’ve come to the decision to remain closed until next week. We just don’t have the staff available to us to operate properly until more of our team get a clean bill of health.

"Firstly, we apologise to anyone who was booked in with us over the rest of this week. You will be contacted in due course.

"This is not how we envisaged welcoming in the New Year with you all, but in the current climate these things just can’t be helped.

"We plan to reopen next Wednesday, 5th January, at 12pm and operate as normal from then. Again, we apologise to anyone who was due to dine with us, this was not an easy decision to make.

"Stay safe, Pups. We’ll see you soon."

Meanwhile, Lough Erne Resort has announced it is to implement a short-term ‘circuit breaker’ closure due to the increasing levels of Covid-19 within Co Fermanagh.

With immediate effect all dining facilities and the spa at the resort have been closed to non-residents, while the hotel will close to residents from 12noon on December 30.

It will be open to wedding guests only on Thursday, December 30, and Friday, December 31, 2021, while golf facilities will remain open.
