Belfast restaurant City Picnic reveals potential opening date after Primark fire

The owners of a popular Belfast restaurant have revealed when they hope to reopen.

The City Picnic restaurant on Castle Street was forced to close after the devastating Primark fire in August last year.

They moved to a pop-up stall in the city centre, but hope that they'll be back in the restaurant by mid-June.

City Picnic is owned by Gavin Gregg and Arthur McAnerney, and has been open for close to a decade.

A spokesperson told Belfast Live: "Arthur and Gavin can’t wait to start selling burgers and salads after 10 months of a very difficult period in City Picnic's life.

"Hopefully this will happen soon and we can welcome our fantastic customers back home."

The move comes after part of the fire cordon was reduced on Tuesday.

There is now a link between Castle Street and Fountain Street.

Abacus Beads, which fell within that part of the cordon, has now reopened at its original site.

Owner Kathleen McGovern told Belfast Live: "Queen's Arcade was a lovely area and the community there was great. I was supported fully by everyone there but it was never going to feel like home, like Castle Street.

"Belfast has been on its knees the past few months but hopefully the reopening of Castle Street and the reopening of Zara will give the city a great buzz again in time for Easter."

Popular clothing retailer Zara Belfast reopening date revealed will also reopen on April 4.

A spokesman said: " We are really excited to be reopening our store in Belfast."
