Belfast restaurant booking system hacked by fraudster who took deposits

Customers planning to visit a Belfast restaurants have been scammed of cash after a fraudster hacked into the table reservation system.

The crook managed to contact a number of customers and asked them to pay desposits.

But it was an electronic scam and when the clients visited the restaurant they discovered their money had gone elsewhere.

A spokesperson for ScamwiseNI said: "The scammer had managed to hack into the booking system of a restaurant in Belfast .

"Then he started contacting customers who had made bookings, asking for deposits but instead he pocketed the money himself.

"If you’re contacted like this, play it safe and call the restaurant directly on the number provided on their website and social media channels."
