Belfast recycling centres expand service this week

Belfast’s recycling centres have expanded their service this week and are accepting more materials.

Belfast’s four recycling centres are at Alexandra Park Avenue, North Belfast, Blackstaff Road, West Belfast, Park Road, South Belfast, and Palmerston Road, East Belfast.

Each will now be open seven days a week, and for longer periods.

Recycling centres will now accept bagged general waste, non-recyclable waste and black bag waste, garden waste including grass, hedge trimmings – no garden furniture or machinery - cardboard, glass bottles and jars.

The centres also accept mobile phones and small electronics, wood, scrap metal, electrical items, mattresses and furniture. People can also bring plastic bottles, rigid plastics, paper, batteries, fluorescent tubes, cooking oil, engine oil and paints.

Opening hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am to 5.30pm, Wednesday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 12pm to 5pm.

The only vehicles permitted access are cars, including cars with single axle trailers.

Vans or double axle trailers will not be permitted, and the number of cars on site at any one time will be restricted.

Temporary traffic management arrangements will be in place.

Visitors are responsible for unloading their own waste and are asked to maintain social distancing from staff. Visitors are asked to bring a passenger if help is required off-loading bulky items.
