Belfast ranked as one of top UK cities for its green attractions

Belfast is among the top 10 cities in the UK to have been recognised for their 'green attractions', according to new data compiled by TripAdvisor.

Using their own 'Green Index', TripAdvisor awarded pointed to each city and borough within the study, based on elements such as air quality, pollution, quality of life, life expectancy, and green spaces.

A system was then applied to the scores to calculate just how much green space there is in the immediate area.

From the findings, Belfast ranked as number three on their top 10 for 'Green attractions', just below Leeds and Cardiff.

This means that Belfast has been recognised for being home to some the best parks, gardens, nature & wildlife areas, playgrounds, bodies of water, and forests.

Explaining the results, TripAdvisor said: "Urban green spaces such as parks, woods, lakesides, and gardens give people the space for physical activity, relaxation, peace, and an escape from the hustle and bustle of cities - which will help to reduce stress and boost mental and physical health.

"Leeds, Cardiff, Belfast , Bristol, and Nottingham scored top marks for their green credentials. The cities are home to the best parks, gardens, nature & wildlife areas, playgrounds, bodies of water, and forests."

Despite this, Belfast also ranked highly for pollution, with TripAdvisor data showing that it was the fourth most polluted city in the UK.
