A fault which put six radiotherapy machines at the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre out of action for almost three days has been fixed.
Patients due to have life-saving radiotherapy at Belfast City Hospital between Tuesday and Thursday evening will now be rescheduled for their treatment.
The Belfast Trust has apologised to those affected but would not reveal how many patients were impacted by the technical issue.
A spokesperson said: "The technical fault which affected six of our linear accelerators, the machines which provide radiotherapy treatment at the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre on Tuesday 18 July was rectified by the manufacturer on the evening of Thursday 20 July.
"The Belfast Trust apologises to our patients for the disruption this caused. Any patient whose treatment was affected has been rescheduled and all treatments which were due to be completed by Friday will be completed by Sunday."
They added: "The Trust is continuing to work with the manufacturer to identify the precise cause of the fault" and "to protect the service against a similar event in future.
"The Trust would like to thank all the dedicated staff for their hard work and support in circumstances which were completely out of their control."
The Trust website says there are 10 Varian linear accelerators, which cost up to £1.5m each, in the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital.
