Belfast pub owners vow to rebuild after fire damages bar

The owners of a Belfast bar have vowed to rebuild after a fire yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services attended the scene of the blaze in the east of the city on Saturday.

The Upper Newtownards Road was closed during the incident.

The Ballyhackamore pub stated that "no foul play is suspected".

In an update on Facebook, The Mill Girls Cloud said: "THANK YOU ALL... for helping us. We will remain closed until further notice.

"We have received tremendous support from all over Belfast today. We are all safe and well.

"The building suffered a lot of water and smoke damage internally and externally due to a fire thought to have started as an electrical fault.

"No foul play is suspected. Thanks to NIFRS East, Police East Belfast our neighbours, our suppliers, our staff and friends. We will rebuild."

Meanwhile, a £25million plan to turn part of Crumlin Road Gaol into a whiskey distillery and tourist centre has been given the go-ahead.

At Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee this week, elected representatives gave unanimous approval to change the vacant Gaol Wing A into a fully operational whiskey distillery.
