Belfast Musgrave Hospital closes canteen due to "pest" infestation

A canteen at a Belfast hospital has been closed thanks to a “pest” infestation, it has emerged.

Belfast Trust say they are working to resolve the issue at the public restaurant at Musgrave Hospital.

There are unconfirmed reports that rats have been found at the facility. Sources have also suggested the issue may have arisen due to building work in the area, however this has not been confirmed.

In a statement, the Trust said they have “identified and swiftly resolved a pest control issue at Musgrave Park Hospital, confined to a public restaurant”.

They added: “Pest control measures identified the issue quickly and the restaurant was closed. Belfast Trust worked closely with environmental health officers and the restaurant will reopen on June 18.

“We remain confident we have robust arrangements in place to deal effectively with any such incidents which may occur from time to time. At no time were the catering services provided to patients in any way affected.”
