Belfast Live's #Do1Thing campaign backed by Lord Mayor Daniel Baker

The Lord Mayor of Belfast has backed our #Do1Thing campaign.

Belfast Live is urging people across Northern Ireland to make small changes to their lives to help in the fight against climate change.

First Citizen Daniel Baker said: "We all have a part to play. There is no Planet B. Let's do this together."

On January 22, Belfast Live launched a new section to highlight some of the key issues facing Northern Ireland and the people in our communities that are making a difference.

Backing the campaign, the Lord Mayor said that his passion for the environment has come from his family.

He said: "It’s come from my own children, they're very interested in it, especially my daughter who's nine now. It's a really big topic for her.

"When I became a councillor back in 2017 I was dealing with Climate and I didn't even realise it. From the heavy snow we had and then straight into floods and the impact that had on the community.

Belfast Live #Do1Thing introduction video

"The climate belongs to all of us, all agencies, all parties and we all have to work together.

"We declared a climate emergency in October 2019, we launched the Climate Commission.. it's the first of its kind on this island so it's an exciting collaboration that's going to be collecting data and setting out our priorities and the actions that this council and the city will need to take.

"Our young people in particular - they don't want to hear speeches, they want action and that’s what we want to do."
