Belfast Live readers share heartwarming tales of random acts of kindness

Belfast Live readers have shared heartwarming tales of random acts of kindness.

On Random Acts of Kindness Day, Friday, February 17, we asked our readers to let us know thoughtful things a family member, friend or stranger has done for them.

From flowers, strangers paying for shopping, to a trip to Lapland and more - the kindness of the people of Northern Ireland has shone through.

Here are just some of the extremely thoughtful gestures our readers shared:

  • "A very kind lady who I served in work last week who returned a short time later with a beautiful bunch of flowers after hearing my dog had died the night before. There [are] still caring people out there."

  • "Just before Christmas our wee spaniel, Coco, went missing up the Cavehill. The amount of strangers that turned out to look for her was absolutely overwhelming! As a family, we'll never forget the kindness and help that we received from the amazing folks of NI in getting Coco home, far too many to name! From the bottom of our hearts, we'll be forever in your debt."

  • "Coming down from my sons grave last [year]. Feeling very emotional... On my route back down [to] my car I could [see] some people making their way up the hill towards me so I took a shortcut [to] avoid them seeing the tears... On my shortcut journey, I met a lovely lady coming towards me who I knew... She put her arms around me gave me the warmest hug... No words.. just a comforting hug... I will never forget that moment..."

  • "A complete stranger paid for my shopping when I forgot my card at home. When I came back they had paid and left before I could [even] thank them."

  • "When my work colleagues organised a secret Santa and sent myself and my daughter to Lapland!"

  • "A patient came back to my clinic with this bar of chocolate for me as he said he was [grateful] for the kindness I showed to him... it's the smallest gestures that mean the most."

  • "It was in Lidl in Belfast, and a complete stranger paid for my shopping as my card wouldn’t work and [I] had no cash on me. I asked him his phone number so I could pay him back but he wouldn’t hear of it. Such a lovely thing to do and I will never forget his kindness that day."

  • "A few weeks ago [I] was in Dunmurry petrol station putting petrol in my car [and] when I went up to pay for it, this young gentleman had paid for it. Don't [know] who he was, so thank you whoever you were."

  • "A woman in Banbridge Boulevard tonight bought me an air fryer, handed it to me at the till."

  • "We had a lovely customer come in to Costa Drumkeen today who bought a gift card for us to give to a customer at random. Really brightened our day as it was such a lovely gesture."

  • "I was in Asda and we were counting our change for a dessert. Some woman came over and gave us the money for the dessert, definitely still kind people out there."

  • "About 10 years ago I was in a local newsagent to buy a lottery ticket and I didn’t realise that £200 and said ticket had fallen out [of] my purse. When I got home both money and ticket had been posted through my letterbox, I still to this day don’t know who it was."
