Belfast is one of the most expensive places to buy a pint

Belfast is one of the most expensive places to buy a pint, research has found.

Preston’s pint-suppers get the best value, paying a bargain £3.06.

The Lancashire city is 41% cheaper than London, where a pint will set you back £5.18.

And the UK average is £3.72.

A beer in Liverpool (£3.27) will cost you nearly a pound less than in nearby Manchester (£4.11).

But the cheapest in the world is in Mozambique at just 39p , while the priciest is Qatar at £10.30, a study to mark International Beer Day today found.

The British Beer & Pub Association’s chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: “Pubs are the beating heart of our communities and bring us together, something drinking at home simply can’t compete with, no matter how much cheaper it is.”
