Belfast International Airport incident as light aircraft suffers “undercarriage failure”

A light aircraft has made an emergency landing after suffering an “undercarriage failure”.

The plane touched down at Belfast International Airport earlier this afternoon, but the pilot on board did not suffer any injuries.

A brief video from the scene shows emergency vehicles there and flashing lights.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service confirmed the plane had landed and the pilot had got out before the ambulance arrived. They added that the pilot was not brought to hospital. The incident has not caused any disruption to commercial flights, the Airport says.

In a brief statement, a spokesperson for Belfast International Airport said: “A light aircraft suffered an undercarriage failure on landing at Belfast International Airport at approx 2pm today.

“The pilot on board suffered no reported injuries. The airport remains open and operational with no disruption to flights.”

One witness said the plane involved was a Cessna and that it landed on Runway 25, however this has not been confirmed by the Airport.
