A heartwarming letter left for a self-isolating elderly woman in Belfast has been hailed as a wonderful display of community spirit.
The note was left for a 90-year-old woman living in west Belfast, by her five-year-old neighbour, Josie, who comes over for "a wee yarn" every now and then.
Eileen, who is better known as Ellen, was delighted when she heard a rattle coming from her letterbox, Belfast Live reports.
Josie's letter reads: "To Eileen, I miss you and Honey. I hope you are keeping good.
"I will see you after the coronavirus, love Josie."
The letter comes at a time when the elderly, who are most risk of the coronavirus, has been asked to minimise contact with the general public.
Eileen's grandson, Kieran McCormick, who is a registered nurse, checks in with his grandmother her dog, Honey, every night.
He said when he visited the home on Sunday evening, he saw the letter had pride of place on his grandmother's fireplace.
"Josie would call in to see my grandmother for a wee yarn regularly, but with the recent measures on self-isolation, she hasn't been able to.
"So, it has just been just my granny and her dog Honey in the house.
"I come by every night and do the night checks to see if she is okay and is getting on well and when I came in on Sunday I saw the letter on the fire place.
"She was overjoyed about the letter, just delighted.
"It shows the community spirit and I think at a time, especially with people like my grandmother are very lonely, for a young girl and a family to take the time out and go out of their way was lovely."
