Belsonic Belfast gig-bound teenagers treated by paramedics after removal from train

Large numbers of teenagers were reportedly removed from a train bound for Belfast this evening.

A few gigs are taking place in the city, including the Picture This concert at Botanic and Ben Nicky at Belsonic in Ormeau Park.

It is understood the youngsters were disembarked at Mossley West train station around 6.30pm or 7pm.

A spokesperson for Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: "Hundreds of kids were taken off the train at New Mossley for being drunk and disordely.

"We treated four children. Three were discharged at the scene and one was taken to the Mater Hospital."

It is understood the child's condition was not serious and they will make a full recovery.

Rumours of children falling ill after taking drugs have been rubbished.

The Belfast Trust said it is not aware of any major incident at Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital involving 125 children alleged to have taken "bad Es".

While the Ambulance Service said it knows of one or two incidents, but nothing of the size or nature that has been suggested.

Belsonic spokesman Joe Dougan said: "I was speaking to a consultant on site who is handling the medical provision and she has confirmed that is not happening. There is nothing going on.

"There was an incident earlier with a small number of drunk kids on the train on the way to an event but there has been no drug hospitalisations of any kind."

The PSNI also posted on Facebook: "We have been made aware of various reports circulating on social media about incidents at tonight’s Belsonic concert. This is NOT the case. Three people have been transferred to hospital for medical treatment for minor injuries/effects of alcohol.

"If you are collecting people from the concert, please bear in mind the Ormeau embankment will remain closed to through traffic from the Ormeau Road junction, to the Ravenhill Road junction until midnight.

"With large numbers of pedestrians exiting the area, road users should exercise great care."
