Belfast foodbank 'under extreme pressure' as they appeal for urgent supplies

A Belfast foodbank is experiencing "extreme" pressures to provide food and support to those in need.

The People's Kitchen, based on the Antrim Road, has issued an urgent appeal to the public for donations of items from a number of categories. All donations can be dropped off to their building.

Formally St Patrick's Soup Kitchen Belfast, their mission is to "provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals and families who are faced with homelessness and poverty with a focus on outreach in the community and on the street". And volunteers are feeling the stress as more families are in need of help.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the People's Kitchen said: "We are under extreme pressure at the Peoples Kitchen Belfast providing food and support to those in need.

"We urgently require donations of:

  • All non perishable food including soup and breakfast items,
  • All sizes of nappies,
  • Fruit and veg,
  • Toiletries,
  • Adult clothing that includes underwear for male and females and
  • Sleeping bags.

"If you can assist in anyway you can drop off these items to 1 Antrim Road at Carlisle Circus (rear of the building) or phone 07840 853089."
