A taxi driver was threatened by a barefoot man with a knife in North Belfast early this morning.
Pictures of the incident, around 7.15am in the Old Park area of the city, have been posted online.
The man, dressed in jeans and a black hoody, was snapped pulling the door of the fonaCAB vehicle open, while holding a knife in his left hand.
The firm declined to comment on the incident.
Before trying to force his way into the black car, the culprit entered a nearby Co-Op store.
A shop worker told Belfast Live: “He came in the front door. He had no shoes on and a knife in his hand but he was no trouble.”
The man was captured on the shop’s CCTV footage, which has now been handed over to police.
North Belfast SDLP councillor Paul McCusker has called on anyone who saw him in the area early on Sunday to contact police .
He said: “I’ve been contacted by a number of people regarding an attack at the Cliftonville Circus this morning involving a male with a weapon towards a FonaCab driver.
“I have been speaking to FonaCab staff and police to ensure the driver is ok.
“The male involved has not been caught and if anyone witnessed this incident or have any information please share it.
“Taxi services are vital to our local community and they do not deserve to be targeted this way.”
Police confirmed they were aware of the incident and the images posted online.
