Belfast flight 'declaring emergency' diverts to Birmingham Airport

A charter plane travelling from Belfast to Exeter on Monday morning was forced to divert after it "declared a general emergency".

The Stobart Air flight - STK3690 - departed Belfast at 10.43am bound for Exeter when it encountered issues over the West Midlands and was forced to divert to Birmingham Airport.

Birmingham Live reports that Flightrader24, which tracks live air traffic, said it suffered an emergency over the Worcester area, with an alert issued just before midday on Monday, May 17.

A statement from their team said: "Stobart Air flight STK3690 diverts to Birmingham Airport in UK after declaring general emergency."

In a statement issued to Belfast Live, a spokesperson for Stobart Air, operator of Aer Lingus Regional services said: "Flight EI3690 from Belfast to Exeter (17 May) diverted to Birmingham after a crew member felt unwell. The crew member disembarked for medical attention and the flight continued its onward journey to Exeter."

Belfast Live contacted Belfast City Airport for a statement on Monday afternoon.

Stobart Air's website says it operates up to 940 flights across 43 routes in 11 European countries with partners Aer Lingus, including flights from Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Donegal and Kerry each week.
