Belfast fire being tackled by NIFRS in Duncrue area

Firefighters are tackling a blaze in the Duncrue area of Belfast tonight.

Details are unclear but a smoke plume from the incident can be seen from across the city.

Witnesses say the fire is at a large warehouse. Images of the plume are being posted on social media.

The Northern Ireland Fire And Rescue Service confirmed they are at the scene of a “large incident” in the area, but added that it is ongoing and they do not yet have any details to release.

One witness said they saw three appliances arriving and that the police have closed Duncrue Link at the request of Fire Service.

They added: “A fair amount of young people are congregating to have a look and people driving down as well to gawk, but I’d say people should avoid the area.”

It is understood the PSNI and Harbour Police are monitoring the situation closely. The fire is the second significant incident the NIFRS has dealt with on Sunday. Earlier today crews fought a blaze in Bessbrook which resulted in one firefighter being taken to hospital.
