Belfast dad who lost son to drugs speaks out in powerful video made by kids

A Belfast dad who lost his 16-year-old son to drugs has spoken out in a powerful video made by a school in West Belfast.

Paul Fox lost son Aaron to suicide after a drug addiction that started when he was 13.

Now, year eight pupils at CBS on the Glen Road have devised a short film alongside Kids in Control (KIC) that looks at the impact of drugs in their community.

They spent six months with Jade Hale, hoping to get the message out to their peers so that they can stand up to peer pressure and be confident in saying no to drugs.

Teacher David Bell said: "The school in partnership with KIC has produced multiple short films addressing issues around mental health, bullying and CPR awareness that has benefited our young people tremendously.

"KIC have continually provided unique opportunities and experiences for our pupils, and as a school we are indebted to them and appreciate all they have done for our boys."

Kids in Control is a professional theatre company for youth of all abilities and has been developing issue based creative learning programmes with CBS for over four years. KIC runs an annual Schools Inclusion Programme which connects youth, and provides access opportunities, to arts programming.

They are core funded by the Arts Council Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council. For further information or to book a taster workshop for a school, youth or community group you can contact KIC via email kidsincontrol@hotmail.com or 0790 9536906.
