Belfast City Hall to light up in rainbow for frontline workers

Belfast City Hall is to be lit up in rainbow for frontline workers this week.

The display is intended to show solidarity with key workers at the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic in Northern Ireland and the rest of the world.

It is part of a move by former Deputy Lord Mayor and Councillor Peter McReynolds to celebrate frontline workers.

The news comes just a couple of weeks after the City Hall was lit up in purple to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Alliance Party Councillor for East Belfast (Ormiston) said in an announcement on Twitter: "Beyond delighted the Belfast City Council have accepted my request to launch a campaign to commemorate efforts during this time.

"This will involve asking children to send their painted rainbows to us and lighting up Belfast City Hall in rainbow colours.

"It will also be in conjunction with the MAC who have launched their own campaign for rainbows that have been painted by children during this time, to display when they reopen."

No word yet on when the City Hall will be showing all its colours.
