A number of traffic lights are not working in Belfast city centre this evening.

The incident - which is understood to be because of a power failure in the area - has affected Adelaide Street, May Street and Alfred Street .

It is not known when electricity in these areas will be restored.

TrafficwatchNI has urged motorists to slow down and take extra caution.

It said in a tweet: "Traffic lights still out of action Adelaide Street, May Street, and Alfred Street area - identified as NIElectricity power failure in the area.

"(We are) not sure when these will be working again - until fixed motorists asked to approach with extra care!"
