Belfast city centre 'sex assault' investigated by police

Police are investigating a report of a 'sexual assault' in Belfast city centre.

The incident is understood to have taken place on the city's Arthur Street around 4.20pm on Tuesday, August 25.

A woman is alleged to have been "slapped" on the buttocks by a passing man.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information following a report of a sexual assault on a female in Arthur Street, Belfast at approximately 4.20pm on Tuesday, 25th August.

"As three males walked past this female and her two friends, one of the males 'slapped' her on the buttocks.

"We would appeal to anyone who was on Arthur Street witnessed this incident to contact police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting ref 1996 25/8/20.

"Sexual assault is when a person, male or female, touches another person without the person's consent. This means any physical contact, whether with part of their body, with another object or through clothing.

"We would take this opportunity to remind everyone that all sexual touching without consent is a crime."
