George Best Belfast City Airport has been named as one of the top three airports in the world.
The airport is one of three airports competing for the title of ‘Airport of the Year’ at the prestigious 2019 AIR Convention Europe Awards.
It is up against Heathrow Airport and Greater Toronto Airports Authority.
The city airport received 73% of a first-round public vote, and now members of the public can participate in the final round of voting, which will end on Friday, September 13.
The winning airport will be announced at a glittering ceremony during the convention, 16-18 September, in Vilnius, Lithuania.

“Receiving over 70% of a public vote is an impressive feat and an extremely positive indicator that our investments, facilities, routes and services are ticking all the right boxes with both inbound and outbound passengers.
“We would like to thank everyone who has lent their support to Belfast City Airport so far. As the only airport on the island of Ireland to be shortlisted in the category, we’re hopeful that our local community will continue the same level of support during this final round of voting!”
Belfast City Airport has been named as the UK and Ireland’s Most Convenient Airport by The Telegraph. Belfast City Airport has also been named the UK’s Most Punctual Airport following the release of 2018 statistics by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
