Belfast boxing show postponed as promoter voices disappointment

This weekend's 'XXI' boxing show scheduled for the Europa Hotel is OFF.

Promoter Mark Dunlop said he was "completely gutted" after being forced to to push back the event following a series of late setbacks.

Rising young star Colm Murphy was due to headline the card, but two of his opponents pulled out at short notice.

Dunlop attempted to source a third replacement for Murphy but was resigned to postponing the event, saying it would be "unfair to let our loyal customers down with less notice."

The show was also due to feature Matthew Fitzsimons, Conor Cooke and Tony Nellins.

Dunlop added in a statement shared on social media: "I myself have been battling Covid for the last seven days and it is not a pleasant experience.

"I have not made this decision lightly and am very disappointed that of the opponents that were available were not deemed suitable enough opponents for a 21-year-old kid who has had only one fight.

"I am also equally as disappointed that I have to let not only the home fighters down at five days' notice but also the away fighters.

"A full refund will be given on all tickets sold, please make contact through your point of sale.

"As I said, this is a postponement and not a cancellation, so please be patient while a new date is sourced for the reschedule."
