Belfast boxing conference to shine a light on mental health awareness

The County Antrim Boxing Board will shine a light on mental health awareness at its forthcoming annual conference.

The Board, in partnership with the Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA), will host the major event on Sunday, October 20 in Belfast.

It will form part of the Belfast Boxing Strategy which is supported by Belfast City Council, and will focus on looking after your mental health and emotional wellbeing.

The conference will also provide information and advice to clubs on how they can support their club members.

Guest speakers include former Olympic boxer Kenneth Egan whose own life story is one of redemption after his battle with alcohol.

Kenny eventually went on to study psychotherapy and is now a mental health and motivational speaker.

Another guest speaker at this month's conference is Armagh GAA legend Oisin McConville whose gambling addiction almost drove him to suicide.

Oisin is now a trained counsellor who gives talks all over Ireland about mental health.
