Belfast Bikes announced the news on Twitter today and apologised for any inconvenience caused to their customers.
The announcement read: "Unfortunately we have to suspend rentals today, our service provider, NextBike, is experiencing technical issues which is affecting all of their bike sharing schemes across the world.
"Please accept our apologies, this is something outside of our control."
A spokesperson for NextBike confirmed that all of its services have been put to a halt today.
He told Belfast Live: "NextBike began experiencing technical issues across our sites last night.
"Unfortunately we do not know when this will be resolved."
