Belfast bar and nightclub Kremlin reopens after New Year's fire

A popular Belfast bar and nightclub has fully reopened after a major fire on New Year's Eve.

The blaze at the Kremlin on Donegall Street forced its main clubroom to close for over a month.

It was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water.

Entertainments manager Aidie McClay told Belfast Live that it had a major impact on the business.

He said: "The fire on New Year’s Eve had a devastating effect on the club, both financially and socially.

"The six weeks we were closed was a challenge for all of us. With no income we had to cut back as far as possible. We gave our staff shifts in our sister bar, The Union Street Bar so they didn’t lose out too much and wouldn’t have to go looking elsewhere for employment.

"We would like to thank both our staff for sticking with us and to our loyal customers who supported us throughout, by still coming out to the smaller club and for all the messages of support on social media.

"We have now reopened with a new state of the art sound system and a spectacular lights and laser show and big plans for the future."
