Belfast Airport Police called to remove "disruptive passenger" off flight from Spain

The captain of a flight from Spain to Belfast yesterday was forced to call Airport Police to meet their landing and remove a "disruptive passenger".

The Thomas Cook plane travelled from Reus to Belfast International Airport at lunch time - and was met by airport officers who removed the man in question.

A spokesperson for Belfast International Airport confirmed that the man was removed.

She said: "Airport Police were called to deal with an incident on board a Thomas Cook aircraft on arrival at Belfast International Airport yesterday."

A passenger on the flight, who did not wish to be named, told Belfast Live that he was shocked by what he saw.

The Co Down man said: "He was on our flight out to Spain last week and even then was disruptive.

"The way he was speaking to his partner and the young child with them was just disgusting.

"I was praying that they weren't going to be in the same hotel as us. And thankfully they weren't.

"On the flight home, his behaviour was just as shocking. He was speaking to his partner in a very derogatory way, cursing at her and throwing insults at her for everyone to hear.

"At one stage, I witnessed him hit his elbow into her ribs. She let out a yelp and he got very angry.

"He called her a drama queen and told her to shut up.

"When we landed in Belfast , we were all advised by the Thomas Cook staff to remain in our seats and I just knew something was about to happen.

"The Police then came on board and took them off the flight."

A Thomas Cook spokesperson told Belfast Live: “We can confirm that the police were called to meet yesterday’s flight on arrival into Belfast from Reus (MT1173) following disruptive behaviour from a passenger.

"The safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority, and we do not accept disruptive behaviour on board.”
