Belarus president claims 'no one in his country will die from coronavirus'

A controversial dictator has made an extraordinary claim that no one in his country has died or will be killed by coronavirus because he has 'a cure'.

Alexander Lukashenko, president of Belarus said he has found combinations of drugs to rescue people from the killer virus.

He has angered medics and human rights activists by refusing to take Covid-19 seriously and refusing to acknowledge his own country's official figures that shows 29 people have died.

By failing to follow other nations by bringing in a lockdown his critics said he risks 'genocide'.

Instead the belligerent dictator told the 9.5million people living in the repressive ex-Soviet state: "We have already found combinations of drugs to rescue people."

The 65-year-old failed to give out any further details about the cure but said: "No-one has died from coronavirus in our country. No-one!

"They died from a bunch of chronic diseases they had been suffering from."

He claimed the World Health Organization agreed with him that so called Covid-19 victims in Belarus died from other conditions such as heart problems or diabetes.

Addressing people in Belarus who are suffering from coronavirus he said: "They should not even worry.

"No-one will die from coronavirus in our country. I am saying this in public. This is my firm conviction judging by analysis not only of previous years.

"We already have this year's experience and from our experience, from Chinese, American, European experience - of how this disease is running - we see how we should work.

"Therefore, we will do our best to fight for every person. If a person stays positive, they will be healthy."

Lukashenko, who has ruled Belarus with an iron first for 25 years, had previously claimed coronavirus could be cured by drinking vodka, driving a tractor, going to a sauna or playing with baby goats.

The country has seen no restrictions or lockdowns whatsoever with sporting fixtures all being played as normal as according to Lukashenko "sport is the best anti-virus remedy".

He has also called coronavirus a 'psychosis' and claims world powers are exploiting it to extend their dominance.

"The world has gone mad from the coronavirus, he previously said.

“This psychosis has crippled national economies almost everywhere in the world.”

Virologist Andrus Voynich has compared Lukashenko's actions to genocide.

He said: "This is on the boundary of a crime and the active destruction of his own people.

"I can only compare this with the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. Only there it was done manually, and here with the help of an epidemic.

"I don't have other comparisons for Lukashenko's actions."

People living in Belarus have signed a petition pleading: "We want to live."

The killer virus has claimed the lives of more than 119,000 worldwide.
